Birth Wings

I was born with wings to be free,
So, why am I unable to fly?
Whenever did they take 'em from me?
In exchange for what, my right to die?

Maybe I have always been wrong,
It could be another life I lead.
A place in the sky to belong,
Against the strife I have fought instead.

I climb the cliff to the sentinel tower,
Unrelenting in my desperate quest.
I recall possessing all of the power,
Up to every past challenge and test.

Toward the ground, I cast off, free falling headlong
I'm oblivious to what harm could befall me?
Chosen others gather around me to chant a song
In pine boughs I land, saved from my stupidity.
