About Wolfcats

The main characters in several of my books are wolfcats, or at least they have the attributes of them. So the obvious question is what is a wolfcat?   

Wolfcats are magical beings that are part wolf, part great cat and part human. They are the direct result of the attempts of the Sabatin, an immortal race from the torrid regions of Anter'x to breed a perfect slave race to replace the rebellious Hovdin. Although the Sabatin considered the wolfcats a failed experiment, the Vala'hak, another immortal race, rescued a few of them from Sabatin extermination efforts on the Outworld called Ea and brought them to Anter'x.

The Vala'hak always sought to spare Ea's fragile, nascent ecosystem from the ill-effects of Sabatin interference. The Sabatin were already responsible for the presence of non-native species such as wolves and great cats on Anter'x, as well as the slave race race, the Mang Bhong that they created from wolfcat blood.

The Inworld, Anter'x, and the Outworld, Ea or Earth, are connected through the Continuum via numerous thresholds. Also called mandorlas, referring to the oval appearance of their manifestation as seen from a 'real' world, these are doorways leading into the Continuum. When aligned, the thresholds form a natural bridge that permits safe crossing of the turbulent maelstrom at the heart of the inter-dimensional barrier between worlds.

In ancient times, the Earth's orbit shifted outward causing fewer alignments of the thresholds, diminishing the accessibility of mandorlas. It is debatable whether this was the result of external, magical influences or a more natural process. Subsequently Specrtals sealed nearly all of the portals between worlds to permit Earth and Anter'x to advance without interferences or fear of invasion. Yet, the histories of the two worlds have always been interconnected. Ancient wars fought on Anter'x and the Earth still need to be resolved.
